  • New York City and Back Again!

Well, since this week was kinda exciting I guess I'll post again. We (our youth group) got back from a week long mission trip in New York City at about 1:30 this morning. It was tiring, but a lot of fun and it was great to see how God was working in the lives of many of us in the group.
    And now, several highlights:
-Riding the subway (as least until the novelty of it kinda wore off)
-Looking over the city from the top of the Empire State Building. This is when it first started to sink in how big the city really is and how many people still need Jesus.
-Giving a program at a homeless shelter. The people there were a little more receptive/responsive than your normal Mennonite crowd.
-Singing in the Subway. It was not unusual to see people singing and performing in the subway and that probably helped to quell some of my nervousness. It was also great to see how the group gave everything they had in the songs (singing is definitely NOT one of our strong points). We also gave out CD's as we sang and on Friday night we handed out 600 in about 45 minutes.
-Giving out more CD's Saturday morning. Free CD's are a little easier to give than tracts and people seem to be much more interested and we were able to give out almost a thousand more on Saturday. It was kinda fun: I was at a bus stop and had a bus driver blow his horn at me so I would come over and give him a CD too.
Going into the trip I was not really looking forward to it but God showed me that I needed to take the focus off of myself and look to Him. God definitely gave me strength: some of the things we did took me way, way out of my comfort zone but I was never really nervous about what we were doing, even though a lot of the stuff would normally be nerve-wracking to me. One last thing that stood out to me about the week: be faithful in whatever God has called you to do, even though it may seem that your not doing anything, you never know what kind of impact you are having on people around you.

  • So I was driving along, minding my own business and going with my brother to a friends house. Suddenly, I realized that the car in front of me was slowing down. Due to the horrible, drizzling rain and the bad road conditions, I was unable to get my car stopped in time and ran into the car in front of me. Bummer. I kinda felt like crying, 'specially since I only got my car a week ago. Yup, that is pretty much how it happened and it is pretty much the most helpless feeling I have ever had. I am very thankful, however, that I wasn’t hurt, especially since it easily could have been me, instead of the headlight, that was crashed and mangled. I guess I did realize several things, though. Mainly, that God truly is sovereign and is still in control of my life.

Cool, I guess I just finished my first real post, your welcome.

  • So yeah, I guess I finally got around to getting a xanga site set up, primarily for the purpose of keeping track of all my Bible School friends. Try to enjoy my infrequent updates and feel free to comment if you feel like telling me anything.
